Insurance Data Consultant

Insurance Data Professional – Bordereaux & Snowflake

Contract | 6 months | Outside IR35 | Hybrid, Central London | Start ASAP

The role

A UK insurer needs a hands-on, pragmatic insurance data professional to join its data team on an interim basis. This is a business-and-technical hybrid, not a pure data engineering role. You will own the monthly flow of bordereaux data from a large panel of MGAs and TPAs, keep it clean and reconciled, and turn it into trusted reporting, working across data operations, data quality, reconciliation, governance and BI.

You will be operating in a fast-moving, lightweight environment where data arrives in varied and non-standard formats and needs real judgement to sort out. There is no time to coach, so you will need to be self-sufficient and comfortable getting your hands dirty from day one.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing the monthly collection, validation and ingestion of policy, claims and quote bordereaux from multiple MGAs and TPAs
  • Working directly with MGAs and partners to chase and resolve data submission issues, handling non-standard files and manual interventions
  • Maintaining and enhancing Snowflake data structures, marts and reporting datasets, and writing and optimising the SQL behind ingestion, transformation and reporting
  • Running end-to-end reconciliation (raw through to reporting output), control-total checks, roll-forwards and variance analysis, with handover to Finance
  • Defining and improving data quality controls, lineage and governance, and helping remediate existing audit and control findings
  • Building and maintaining Power BI (and Metabase) reporting for business users
  • Supporting onboarding of new distribution partners and defining their data requirements

What we’re looking for

The primary requirement is genuine insurance data operations experience. You must have worked hands-on with insurance operational data, ideally one or more of:

  • Bordereaux processing
  • MGA / TPA data management
  • Delegated authority operations
  • Insurance policy, claims, premium or exposure data
  • Insurance reconciliation processes

This can come from a carrier, MGA, broker, insurtech or specialty environment, personal lines, commercial or specialty.

Alongside that, strong technical capability:

  • Snowflake data warehousing, hands-on
  • Advanced SQL (ingestion, transformation, reconciliation)
  • Azure
  • Power BI (Metabase useful)
  • Data quality management, reconciliation, control frameworks, data lineage and governance

Just as important, the right approach: pragmatic, hands-on, self-directing, and able to operate across both business and technical conversations in a small, fast-paced team with an immature data estate.
