The Role
You will be responsible for helping design, build and iterate data transformation pipelines across multiple datasets in a secure government-linked environment. A first pipeline has already been built and proven on an initial dataset, and the next phase is to extend that approach across the remaining datasets over the coming months.
This is not a pure platform engineering role and it is not heavily dependent on modern managed cloud tooling. The environment is more constrained, so the emphasis is on good engineering judgement, clear transformation logic, and the ability to build practical, maintainable solutions using the tools available.
Key Responsibilities
* Build and enhance Python-based data transformation pipelines across a number of datasets.
* Analyse source and target data models and define the transformation steps required to move from A to B.
* Translate layered business and data rules into robust pipeline logic.
* Work with existing framework components already built around orchestration and execution.
* Collaborate with the consultancy lead and wider team to split delivery across the workstream.
* Engage with stakeholders in the client data team to clarify requirements and intended outcomes.
* Operate within a broader SI/client landscape and work effectively even where external parties may be difficult to navigate.
* Contribute both technically and consultatively, with enough independence to take ownership of problems and move them forward.
Required Experience
* Strong commercial Python experience in a data engineering context.
* Strong SQL capability.
* Strong data modelling skills, especially mapping source data to target structures and defining transformation logic.
* Experience building data pipelines and handling structured transformation workflows.
* Ability to work in a client-facing consulting role, not just as an internal engineer.
* Comfortable operating with autonomy in a small, specialist team.
Technical Environment
* Python
* SQL
* Prefect
* Dask
* PostgreSQL
* DocDB
* Docker
* EC2-based constrained environment rather than broader modern cloud tooling.
Nice to Have
* Exposure to government, regulated, or security-sensitive environments.
* Experience working alongside large SIs and client stakeholder groups.
* Familiarity with Prefect and/or Dask, although these can be learned by someone with the right Python data engineering background.
